Dog trolleys are made of either aluminium or steel mesh. The
steel trolleys are the strongest and therefore most suitable for
larger dogs, but they are also heavier by ,on average about
25%. Powder coated steel is prone to rusting if the surface is
damaged by either chewing or wear and tear, Zinc coating goes
a long way to protect the trolley from this problem.
Aluminium trolleys are lighter and uncoated aluminium is highly
resistant to corrosion, and any scratch marks or scuffs can be
removed with fine sandpaper
The Merihart aluminium trolley is riveted top and bottom of
each of the closely spaced uprights, (40mm space between
each one), and the base platform has heavy hinges and framing
to take the load, Custom made wheel brackets allow the use of
larger wheels, (150mm standard and 200mm optional) and the
abilty to have the 2 rear wheels swivelling as on the steel
trolley.
All trolleys have spring loaded slam catches for the doors and
clips to hold the unit in the folded configuration and the lid
closed.
Floors can have a reinforcing centre bar if needed for heavy
dogs, and may be covered in nonslip butnyl mat as the top is if
requested.
Although the aluminium uprights are able to be bent by misuse
or strong bored dogs, e.g Rottwiellers, in most cases they can
be easily staightened or replaced.
